With the variety of services that we offer to clients we collect and create a lot of footage, project files, and assets of various kinds. In this short article we will go over the types of data, how we collect it, where we collect it and what we do with it after we deliver the final project files.
Types of client footage and assets
The largest files we store are video files. We typically shoot at the highest video quality possible, our typical in-house camera rig can shoot up to 4k/60p and with our external v mount batteries we can shoot up to 6 hours without turning the camera off. We always shoot photos in Cannon Raw format. Capturing footage this way gives us more flexibility in post production but it does require a lot of storage space.
A typical motion graphics or animation project can also require a lot of data storage. Any footage or assets are stored in project folders and embedded in whatever program we are using to make the create. Adobe after effects, or our 3d modeling files can begin to ballon in size with complexity.
We almost always storyboard or moodboard project ahead of time. So anything from a logo design, complete branding kit or product mockup we save images of any sketches or style guides that result in the finished asset, along with the .ai or .psd file.
How we store your project data
All active project files, footage and other brand assets are stored on our NAS. NAS stands for network-attached storage. Network-attached storage (NAS) is a file-dedicated storage device that makes data continuously available for our team to collaborate effectively over a network. Whether we are working in the Adept Creative studio or if we are working from home that day we can access and work on project files.
Our NAS system uses solid state drives (SSDs) that store large amounts of data, orchestrating the drives to work as one unit. One other benefit of using a NAS is it offers data redundancy. That way if one of the drives fail there is always a backup of all files.
How long do we keep your project data?
Indefinitely, We have project files and footage from every client project since the inception of Adept Creative in 2017. We even have some project files dating back to 2005. The reason why we keep every neatly organized by business and brand is incase we need to revisit a project. This can save our clients and ourselves time and money.
The only exception to this is with former client’s websites. If a client decides to move on from our shared hosting plan, we keep the website files for up to 90 days.
